We’re pleased to announce our 2016 Speakers Series schedule! All workshops are held from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, on Wednesday evenings at the Kindering location listed beside the date.

January 27, 2016 – Successful Sleep Strategies
Presented by Dr. David Reuter, Allegro Pediatrics

Location: Kindering Bellevue (16120 NE 8th Street, Bellevue)

This talk will focus on three important areas of sleep along with time for discussion and questions:

- Reading your child’s clues: Recognizing the subtle behavioral hints your child provides to suggest they’re ready to sleep
- Routines: How to facilitate the transition, and nurture calm in your child
- What happens when your child is sleeping

March 30, 2016 – Planning for the Future: Guardianship, Special Needs Trusts & Other Issues for Families

When children have a disability, it is crucial to plan for their financial future so that when they become adults they will have the necessary financial assistance to live independently and with dignity. Families will not have to worry about who will take care of their child if they are not there. This workshop will give an overview of what a special needs trust is all about, provide insights on guardianships, and identify a framework for families as they plan for the future.

May 25, 2016 – Feeding a Toddler: Parent Tested & Pediatrician Approved Tips for Frustrated Parents
Presented by Dr. Richard Keeler, Allegro Pediatrics

What foods are appropriate for a toddler? Why won’t my toddler eat? Should I purchase organic foods? Does my toddler need a vitamin or supplement? Figuring out what foods are right for toddler can be confusing. Actually getting them to eat those foods can be even more problematic. In this talk, we will cover which foods are ideal for toddlers, how to get them to eat that food and how to keep them safe at the dinner table.

Developing understanding of the many challenges moms and dads experience when having a child with special needs takes time. Many parents have discovered, learning from others that have similar experiences, is one valuable way of making sense of this unique path. Join with other parents and facilitators for robust dialogue and exercises focused on key issues all parents experience at some time when having a child with special needs. A few myths will also be addressed and the value of resilience discussed.
