Mariam Araujo

Psychologist
Director since 2019

Currently a psychologist in private practice, Mariam has been a member of The Arc of King County Board of Directors since June 2018. Mariam has worked with individuals with different forms of disability for more than 20 years as a school psychologist, consultant and currently as a clinical psychologist. Working in her varied roles has offered her opportunities to learn about how those with special needs and their parents navigate school and other medical/health systems. She is eager to integrate this with knowledge of the varied services advocated for and supported by The Arc of King County.

Mariam grew up in Shoreline, Washington and attended the University of Washington. She later obtained her PhD from the University of California Berkeley, spending several years working in the Bay Area as a school psychologist with many Latino and African American families dealing with poverty and their children with special needs. She later returned to Washington to complete her post-doctoral internship at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington working on neuropsychological assessment, treatment of children with medical conditions and autism spectrum disorder. She later worked for 10 years at Seattle Children's Hospital supporting children with psychiatric and developmental disorders and their parents.

Mariam currently relishes hot yoga and gardening, as well hiking and biking. She has two school-age boys who keep her busy with their pursuits in soccer and art.
