The Arc of King County is proud of the many successes in our Parent-to-Parent program! Our coordinators have been working hard to expand The Arc’s offered networking events, peer-support opportunities, and educational workshops.

As many of you know Parent-to-Parent launched in Washington State through The Arc of King County in 1980. As the disability community has evolved, so too has our program. Today, Parent-to-Parent has 5 core goals:

1. Strengthen family relationships;
2. Provide skill-building workshops;
3. Increase parents’ knowledge about their child’s disability;
4. Build family resilience; and
5. Foster community relationships to reduction isolations.

The Arc of King County facilitates safe and nurturing environment, the space, and time for families, parents, and caregivers to network, build relationships, and exchange information.

Quotes from parents involved with Parent-to-Parent:

“Without The Arc's Parent-to-Parent groups, I wouldn't have met the group of ladies who have become wonderful friends and confidants. We have known each other for a year now. We have celebrated each child's milestones, and supported those who needed it. Our kids will grow up together. Friends since they were babies. I am forever grateful.”

“I have been participating in the Yahoo group for about 10 years. It has been one of the most valuable resources we found.”

“The Arc is great. Arc staff with the Parent-to-Parent program are very knowledgeable, creative, and inclusive. I participate most actively through the listerves, but I pass on some of the emails to others in my social network and feel like the connection with The Arc ensures that I know about valuable resources for my child and family. As we move into a more active transition year, I will be leaning more heavily on the trainings for guardianship and Social Security Income, plus the many other trainings and consultations offered by The Arc. Thank you for all you do!”

“Love the Yahoo groups. I have been a member for 17 years and have created life-long friendships through The Arc. I still participate in seminars and activities when they are appropriate for our family. Thank you.”
